Travelling to more distant locations raises the need to adapt to changes in weather conditions, possibly very different and extreme. This, in turn, expends more energy that warms the body, and any excess heat needs to be removed through a well-ventilated area. Protection too must not be forgotten. It may be that speeds are not always so high when off road, but falls can be just as, or even more dangerous, due to the environment in which they occur. "On-road" is the more standard travel scenario amongst normal traffic and long stretches on tarmac. The choice of clothing is easily tailored to the individual requirements of the travel style.
